Resume Builder published an article last October entitled “Labor Shortage Driving Demand for Retirees – 20% Have Been Asked to Return to Work.” They surveyed over one thousand workers who had retired and employees who were over 54 years of age. They were looking for the types of new careers these senior adults were looking for.
One in five retirees reported that their former employer had asked them to return to the workplace because of the labor shortage. Only 41.1% would take them up on the offer while 58.9% would look for work elsewhere.
Some reasons cited for rehiring those workers were familiarity with the company culture, emotional attachment, pride, minimum training required, they possess a wealth of experience, etc.
34% considered returning to the workforce because of opportunities stemming from the labor market at that time. But companies better be alert to their demanfs such as higher pay, flexibility, work-from-home, time off, getting back in the game, etc.
The 58.9% would not work for their previous employer and might change fields as well. The biggest percentage mentioned switching to the hospitality industry.
Almost 2/3 of respondents said that they would seek a less stressful job.
