Thinking of changing jobs, unretiring or returning to work? It pays to do your research work. Several interesting articles recently drew our attention at xBound.us along with a governmental resources directory which might help your decision-making process.

Last week AARP published “15 Growing Jobs for Older Workers“. The article offered a quick look at the 2021 U.S. Bureau of Labor Standards Statistics which showed the “15 careers that are projected to increase their hiring by 2030 and for which the median age of workers last year was 50-plus.”

Jobs ranged in pay from Laundry and dry-cleaning workers to Judges. They showed the median age for each job, median hourly pay and the anticipated job growth (percent increase) for the next eight years. A brief summary was also included.

Seniorly Resource Center last February published “Best and Worst States for Older Workers“. In it they wrote that “A record 10.6 million Americans 65 and older are currently in the workforce. By 2030, it will surge to 16 million, with workers 75 and older projected to increase by 96.5% and workers 65 and older by 41.9%.”

Among other interesting facts, the article went on to list Kentucky as the worst state for older workers while Wyoming was the best state. They analyzed data across five broad categories including: workforce participation, median household income, state taxes, life expectancy and percentage of those over 65 and covered by Medicare. Sources for their analysis came from the U.S. Census Bureau, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the Tax Foundation. Check out your state’s rankings.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes its Occupational Outlook Handbook. The landing page allows you to search via many filters. There is an alpha/numeric listing of hundreds of job titles.

Click on a job title to quickly see a summary of median pay, entry level education, work experience required, training, 2020 jobs and outlook to 2030, net change, etc. If it looks interesting, further explore in depth what the job entails, the work environment, outlook, comparisons by state, similar jobs, etc.
