Early last week I wrote an article entitled “New Skills Training For Senior Adult Workers 50+ Pays Off.” In it, I discussed how senior adults 50+ were enrolling in online classes and training programs while they were sheltering in place during the pandemic.

One of the goals was to increase their skills and enable them to search and land new jobs in this economy. And hopefully, those jobs were better than the ones they left since they had made the effort to elevate their capabilities.

I followed up with the article “Retired Senior Adults 50+ Returning to Work Per WSJ Podcast.” It seemed to be a natural segue from the first article. A Wall Street Journal podcast over the prior weekend focused on how inflation is ruining some retirement plans. High inflation is becoming one of the main causes driving unretirement.

It simply costs more to live and that is eroding the purchasing power of retirement savings. The current inflation rate is the highest in over 40 years. It is a major reason why senior adults 50+ are returning to the workforce in greater percentages than prior to the inflation.

Enhance Employer In-Demand Skills

AARP is another source of online training to acquire in-demand skills needed to remain current. I mentioned AARP Skills Builder as a source. Another resource from the organization is the Online Learning Series. They offer both scheduled and on-demand webinars covering “today’s technological hiring practices from online applications to online interviews.” These are meant to enhance your skills and ultimately help you to land a new position.

I found a half dozen on-demand topics as well. These covered areas such as skills employers desire, enhancing your online presence, hiring bots criteria, mastering interviewing questions, the changing job market as well as remote work.
